Policeman Kills Himself, Wife, 5 Others Over Marital Dispute in Abeokuta

A police officer in Ogun State today Thursday march 27th shot and killed seven people including his own wife, a 2 year old, and himself, Premium Times reports. The full report below...

Police Corporal Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi, attached to State Criminal Investigation Department of the Ogun State Police Command, went berserk on Thursday morning in Abeokuta.

The rampaging policeman was said to be having matrimonial problems with Oluwatosin, his wife, who is also a police corporal attached to Obantoko police station in Abeokuta, the Ogun capital.

According to neighbours, following a quarrel between the couple, Oluwatosin moved, alongside their two children, to the house of a neighbour, their landlady.

Witnesses said Mr. Ogunbiyi arrived the landlady’s residence at about 7:02 a.m. and immediately opened fire on his wife. He also shot and killed the landlady, a 2-year-old toddler, and three others. He did not shoot at his children, who were also in the house. continue...

Zenith Bank Boss, Godwin Emefiele Appointed New CBN Governor

Zenith Bank boss Godwin Emefiele, has been appointed as the new governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The Senate on Wednesday, confirmed the appointment.

“Emefiele will ensure the prerequisite responsibilities of the central bank governor without fear or favour,” said Senate President, David Mark.

According to Vanguard Newspaper, Emefiele was not very well known outside the banking industry until his name was presented. He was reportedly regarded as “a low-profile, conservative figure who was unlikely to rock the boat.”

President Goodluck Jonathan suspended ex-CBN governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on February 20th, due to financial misconduct.

Members of Boko Haram today struck in a twin suicide attack around the Dalori Housing Estate in Maiduguri Borno State, killing 5 policemen, 3 civilians and wounding several others. The men were said to have rammed the Volkswagen Golf cars they came in into a police patrol van. The bomb they carried detonated, killing them, the police men, 3 people around the area and injuring several others.

Immediately after the blast, security operatives cordoned off the area to prevent further attacks.

Two women abducted by Boko Haram insurgents  in the North-East have given a rare account of life as captives.23-year-old Liatu, was stopped at a roadblock set up last year by the Islamist militant group. She said any Muslims employed by the government were killed on the spot, as Boko Haram had earlier warned them to leave their work.She was taken to the insurgents' base in Borno state's Sambisa forest, where the bloodshed.

They asked me if I am Christian or Muslim. I said I am Christian.On the 11th day [in captivity], they brought a man to me and said that he liked me and I should convert to Islam so that he can marry me.They were slitting people's throats with knives. Both women and men were killed - especially the men who didn't agree to fight for them.Those that tried to escape were shot but they hardly ever used their guns to kill. They usually used knives. About 50 people were killed right in front of me."

Mr Ibu Advice Government to Stop Giving Actors Money

Popular Nollywood comedy actor, John Okafor alias Mr Ibu, has berated some of his colleagues for receiving money from government in an interview with Punch, decrying the absence of adequate structures in Nollywood.

He criticised the recent visit of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria to President Goodluck Jonathan, saying his beef with those who went to visit the president is because the president is yet to set his priorities right with regard to Nollywood.

According to the actor who rose to prominence after his breakout role in the 1997 movie, Agony, where he portrayed an imbecile, the Federal Government has yet to set its priorities right with regard to Nollywood.

“The government should stop giving Actors’ Guild cash, because we don’t know how to handle it. Some people will go to the office, process the money and squander it and we (actors) never benefit from such goodwill.

Lady Beats 10 Year Old Niece into Unconsciousness for Bed-wetting

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old security guard, Joy Amodu (pictured above), for allegedly torturing her 10-year-old niece, Foziya Danjuma for several hours till the little girl fell unconscious. All because Foziya peed on her bed on February 28, 2014, Punch reports According to the police, the suspect as punishment, used a spatula to beat the 10- year-old and inserted Aboniki balm (methyl salicylate ointment) inside her private parts and her eyes. The suspect also allegedly inflicted teeth bites all over the girl’s body. It was after the girl fainted during the beating that her aunt rushed her to a hospital in the Ajah area, but she was rejected. Amodu then took her niece to a military hospital on the Victoria Island, but the victim was referred to the Military Hospital, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi. It was at the military hospital that a non- governmental organisation, Han Care, took over the case and reported it the police.

Gov Peter Obi Splashes out N160m on 160 1st Class Anambra graduates

Yesterday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Anambra state, Anambra Governor Peter Obi presented a cheque of N160 million which is to be disbursed to 160 first class graduates who are origins of the state. The Governor said it was a gesture by his administration to encourage undergraduate students to strive for academic excellence.

He directed that none of the recepients should be given cash but the money should be paid into their various accounts for better utilization.

Gunmen Kill 69 People in Katsina State

69 people including men, women and children were killed in separate attacks and several houses razed in 3 villages in Katsina State this week. Fulani Herdsmen have been accused of being behind the recent attack.

Confirming the attack to AFP, a lawmaker in the state, Honorable Abbas Abdullahi Michika said the men attacked three villages; Mararrabar Maigor, Kura Mota and Maigura Villages, where 47, 7 and 8 bodies were recovered from each village respectively

"So far, 69 bodies have been recovered from the attacks carried out by a large group of gunmen riding on motorcycles".

Fulani Herdsmen have been in a running battle with local farmers over the loss of grazing land which is important for their cattle.

With the Malaysian plane still missing, U.S. Airways Flight 1702 was heading to Fort Lauderdale, Florida when  the front tyre blew out and the pilot decided to abort takeoff. The nose gear then collapsed when the pilot tried to land the plane again.
The plane was carrying 149 passengers and five crew who emerged unhurt ..A Passenger told CBS

"“We were airborne, then struck back down by the nose.The plane went up, came back down a little bit the first time, then didn’t think much of it. Went up the second time, and then kind of felt loose and went straight back into the ground. Kind of sheer terror in everyone’s eyes,”

This Teenager was molested, Robbed & Abandoned by an Unknown Man

Members of the O’odua People’s Congress, OPC, and concerned Lagosians rescued a teenager, who was raped, robbed and abandoned by an unidentified man in Agege area of Lagos, PM News reports

The OPC members saw the secondary schoolgirl on Sunday, 9 March in a traumatized state at a public toilet near NITEL Office, at Oko Oba, Agege

And after giving her first aid treatment, the teenager was handed over to the police at the Agege Elere Police Divisional Headquarters, who referred her to Orile Agege General Hospital,  Agege for a comprehensive medical treatment.

The teenager, who will be 15 by August, narrated that she came from Osun State and was on her way to Badagry to stay with her aunty who had just given birth, but decided to have a stay the night at Agege, when it became late (around 9.p.m.) and she couldn’t get a bus to her destination. Nigerian Conman Jailed 3 and Half Years for Duping 81yr Old Pensioner in the UK

40 year old Nigerian man Chris Chidi Dinneya (pictured above) has been jailed for three and a half years for duping an 81 year old pensioner from Cambridge of £300,000 out of his life savings. Dinneya told the old man, who was not named publicly, that he had won the Spanish Lottery and the victim believed that he was set to receive a large payout that he continued to pay even after police launched an investigation. 

Police and a County Council were forced to apply for a court order to take control of the elderly victim's bank accounts to prevent him from sending more cash to the fraudster.

A number of the payments was traced to Dinneya who was promptly arrested. He was convicted on money laundering charges and jailed for a total of three-and-a-half years on March 4.

Billionaire Aliko Dangote Ready To Redeem $1million Promise To Super Eagles

Billionaire business man Aliko Dangote says he is ready to redeem his promise of awarding $1m to the Super Eagles for winning the 2013 African Cup of Nations last year in South Africa. He said this a few days after goal keeper and Super Eagles vice-captain Vincent Enyeama begged him and others who pledged various things to the team to fulfill their promises.

"We understand the busy schedule of Alhaji Dangote, we are just asking his aides to help remind him of the promise to us. It’s just a reminder to patriots who are very busy and may not have been prompted after they made their pledges, because the players are determined to bring more honours to fatherland at the forthcoming World Cup” Enyeama said

Speaking with BBC Sports, Dangote said the only reason he hasn't redeemed his promise was because nobody from the team or NFF had contacted him

"We’ve been waiting for Nigerian officials to collect the money but nobody has written to us. We will write to them, asking for the account numbers of the players, then we’ll make the transfer immediately.”

Mother Sells 3day Old Baby for N260,000 in Akwa Ibom

According to a report by Punch, a nursing mother in Akwa Ibom named Imaobong Udoh (pictured above) has been arrested for allegedly selling her 3-day old baby girl for N260,000. Full report below

Also arrested along with Imaobong were four persons for allegedly participating in the theft of the baby.

They are the buyer, Mrs. Regina James; her husband, Mfon James; the traditional birth attendant who delivered the baby, Mrs. Comfort Henry; and Mr Emmanuel Okon, a homeopathic doctor, who arranged the sale.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, said in Uyo on Monday that the father of the baby had reported the theft to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects. continue....

On March 10th, popular football website Goal.com released their Rich List and declared Real Madrid and Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo as the richest active footballer in the world.

The World Footballer of the Year held off rival Lionel Messi in the 2014 Goal Rich List with an estimated wealth of €148million. Retired footballer David Beckham was the 2013 Goal Rich List winner but since he's retired from football, he's no longer eligible to be put in the list.

Messi comes second with an estimated net worth of €146million followed by Eto'o with €85million then Wayne Rooney with €84million, and Kaka rounds off the top 5 with €82million.

Boko Haram: Chief of Army Staff relocates to underfire North East

 The Chief of Army staff,  Lt. Gen, Kenneth Minimah has relocated to the warring North East zone of Nigeria where the Boko Haram insurgence has been on the increase in recent times. The Army Chief is said to have relocated there following the Feb. 26th directive by the National Assembly members for him to be present at the insurgent zone so he can personally monitor the situation there and give proper direction to the fight against the terror group.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence and the Army, George Sekibo has confirmed the Army Chief's relocation.

Eto'o Celebrates with an old man pose to make fun of age falsification story

He also showed that he bears no hard feelings to his coach Jose Mourinho who was caught on camera saying he believes the Cameroonian striker is 35 and not 32.

A member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect confessed before Pastor T.B. Joshua of The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) today, revealing how their plan to bomb the popular church in Lagos was thwarted.

In a broadcast beamed live via the Christian station, Emmanuel TV, late into the afternoon, Joshua announced to the congregation that a young man had a confession to make. 

"My name is Mustapha. I come from Yola, Adamawa State. I am a member of Boko Haram,” he began, sending the congregation into uproar. “Boko Haram is a cult. We have killed many souls,” he confessed.

Sham Bride in Police net enroute her Fourth Nigerian Husband

One of UK's most prolific sham brides, Raquel Neto Furtado De Andrade, 22, has been arrested and sentenced to two years in prison after trying to marry her fourth husband...a Nigerian.

According to the UK Daily Mail, Raquel, who had already married three Nigerians to help give them the right to stay in the UK was caught just minutes before she could marry her fourth husband.

Suspicious staff at the registry noticed she'd been there previously to wed other men and used the same wedding dress at each ceremony. And after she was arrested, records showed she hadn't even bothered to formally divorce previous husbands before marrying a new one...for money.

The fourth groom, a 32-year-old Nigerian (pictured above), was arrested with her and has been deported. UK Immigration is now looking for her three other husbands so they can be deported too.

As for Rachel, she is now behind bars serving a two-year sentence and will be deported to her native Portugal on her release from prison.

Virginity Test: Pastor in Police net for 'Test-fingering'

This story just reminded me of a saying,'All that glitters are not gold'. A pastor identified as a 34years old Adekunle Kayode, yesterday was arrested by Ogun state Police command for conducting virginity test on  a 20-year-old female member of his church in Abeokuta, using his finger.

A father of one, Kayode, was arrested by police detectives after the victim allegedly narrated her ordeal to her father who informed the police.

The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday within the premises of the Jesus is the Way Evangelistic Ministry, Olorunsogo, Abeokuta. continue........

Tragedy averted as guard discover Bomb inside Bank

I can't stop wondering how on earth bomb found its way into a new generation bank with all those heavy security door, undetected. Yet it happened. Tragedy was averted on Tuesday as a security guard attached to a branch of First Bank Plc in Osogbo, Osun State discovered an explosive substance wrapped in a polythene bag inside the banking hall.

According to PUNCH, immediately the discovery was made, bank officials and customers were quickly evacuated from the bank. Read the full report below.

Some customers of the bank told our correspondent that a senior official announced to them that a substance suspected to be a  bomb had been discovered where it was planted. A lonely hearts conman was jailed for three years after cheating six women out of £186,000 through dating websites. Police believe student Emmanuel Jack, 26, claimed to be an architect, engineer and gem broker, while talking them into handing over the money.

Using aliases including John Creed, John Windsor and Johnnie Carlo Rissi, the cash was said to be needed for vbusiness purposes.

The love rat, who was studying for a business degree at the University of Salford, admitted 11 counts of money laundering totalling £186,000 and possession of articles for use in fraud at Manchester Crown Court.

Anglican Church members now take anti-homosexuality oath

Members of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) are now to carry out an oath exercise denouncing any trace or affiliation for homosexuality before they can take up any leadership position in the church. The church which has over the years held strong opposition against homosexuality included this oath taking into its constitution recently.

On Sunday 2nd March, the first oath-taking against homosexuality was conducted at the St. Matthews, Maitama, Abuja branch when new members of the Parish Church Council were sworn in by the Vicar of the Parish, Ven. Ben Idume.

Dangote leaps 20 places in Forbes world top 25 Billionaires Ranking (first black man)

Nigerian business icon, Aliko Dangote yesterday made history by becoming the first black man to break into the rank of top 25 richest people in the world. His wealth jumped to $25bn from $16.1bn in 2013, according to Forbes magazine’s list of the richest people on earth. For the fourth year running, Dangote retained his position in Africa as the richest man of the continent.

Dangote, who was number 43 in the top 100 world billionaire list last year, moved up 20 spots to retain his position as the richest person in Africa and also number 23rd in the world.

The Chairman, Globacom, Chief Mike Adenuga, was the next Nigerian on the list with a wealth of $4.6bn to maintain the 325th position in the world. The Executive Vice Chairman, Famfa Oil Limited and fashion icon, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, retained her position as the world’s richest black woman and the 687th in the world with a fortune of $2.5bn; while the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, BUA Group of Companies, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, was ranked 1372th in the world with $1.2bn.

More than 33 Feared dead In Boko Haram Fresh Raid On Mafa, Borno State

Suspected Boko Haram members attacked Mafa Local Government Area on Sunday night, having destroyed over 70 percent of structures in the area and having reportedly killed scores of people.

According to residents in the area, the men came into Mafa town using Hilux Toyota vans armed with AK47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices ( IED’s ), Rocket Propelled Launchers, petrol bombs and opened fire on residents who were asleep, which led to at least 33 people being killed, with several injured, and property worth millions of Naira destroyed. The gunmen are reported to have had a field day in Mafa having overpowered the military personnel stationed in the Village.

The Borno state Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko, has confirmed the incident but says he has no exact number of casualties. More than 200 people have died in the siege the sect men have laid in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states in the past one week.
